Volunteer and Hero

"Volunteer" is a male Bald Eagle that was hatched in 1989. He was transferred to the American Eagle Foundation from the San Francisco Zoo.

In a ceremony honoring our fallen soldiers, "Volunteer" and seven other eagles were named by the families of these brave soldiers. "Volunteer" was named in honor of Army National Guard soldier Joey Hunt.

"Volunteer" is in the AEF's breeding program with his mate, Hero.

"Hero" was also transferred from the San  Francisco Zoo to the American Eagle Foundation. She is named for SFC Stephen C. Kennedy, a fallen soldier. Hatched in 1989, she was paired with "Volunteer" in hopes that they will mate and produce young to be released into the Smoky Mountains.
